Proto-South-Bantu is the reconstruction of the latest common stage (aka "the most recent ancestor") of a group of languages within Eastern Bantu. In particular, it includes almost all of the Bantu languages found Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa, as well as many of those in Malawi and Botswana. The Guthrie codes for these languages are groups N20-N30-N40 (except N41), P30, and all groups in zone S (as well as K21). The South Bantu group is equivalent to clades 16 and 17 on the tree of Koile et al. (2022). See the charts in Bantu language groups.
